Have you used Elite 11? Is PL2 an improvement over Elite 11? I have seen your other posts on PL2 as well. I am debating if there would noticeable improvement but something I will try to find out.
DXO PHOTOLAB 2 ELITE VS DXO SOFTWARE
The Nikon software can also apply it's own proprietary Nikkor lens profiles to the same data. That is exactly the reason I guessing for the imaging looking slightly cleaner in View NX-i The Nikon's own converters apply all the Nikon picture controls (including white balance, camera colour profiles, noise reduction, sharpening, etc.) you had your camera set to. The Nikon software like ViewNX-I & CaptureNX-D have a slight "insider information" advantage over the converters form DXO, Capture1, Adobe, etc. I find that, most of this "objectionable" noise "disappears" when the D810 NEF isdowsampled & exported from 36-40MB NEF into final/presentable jpeg image.
DXO PHOTOLAB 2 ELITE VS DXO ISO
Some luminosity noise reduction may be needed for high ISO images. Check the sharpening/clarity setting of our converer program when you notice a "noisy" image. Try not adding any/much sharpening/ clarity to images where you find noise objectionable. I need to do some controlled tests to see if the end result is any better in one vs.

It's just that Nikon's own software can "hide it" from you a bit abetter then others. The noise you see in the file is generally there. This is sometimes why some people prefer "the look" they get from one converter program over another. Instead, each non-Nikon program/company applies it's own version of colour, sharpening, and noise corrections to the NEF file. Capture1 can't read all the proprietary Nikon picture control data which is also burried inside the NEF file, well, not without Nikon's help, so they tend to just ignore it.

The one big reason why I prefer DXO is that it's lens correction works for most third-party lenses.įinally, what are the different parameters for NR in Capture NX-D? I would like help in understand what things like radius mean. If you get better results with DXO, are there specific settings that help? I would like to create my own corrections preset if I can find the right settings. My question is, what's your experience with DXO and D810 files? How do those results compare with Capture NX-D results? Actually, the file displays better just for a second or less while DXO is trying to apply its default settings (the wheel is spinning) and as soon as it's done, the image is worse. This is a low-light shot of a stage concert. When I open the same NEF file in DXO (same monitor), even with PRIME NR applied, the image clearly shows noise. The ADL setting does a good job of controlling bright highlights. I feel that these programs and the camera are applying some noise reduction by default even when displaying the RAW image. When I open a D810 NEF file in View NX-i, or Capture NX-D, the image is clean. I noticed that DXO did a better job with D7x00 files than it did with the FZ2500's. I have used DXO for a few years now, first with D7100, then D7200 and FZ2500.
